A Few Good Reasons To Drink White Tea

Support Your Health

These days most people are looking for ways to bolster their health and prevent, if possible, a variety of diseases. One of the ways to promote better health is to drink tea.

All varieties of tea have compounds which are healthful for the human body. These include several kinds of antioxidants: flavonoids and polyphenols which are known cancer fighters; catechins which have a positive effect on cholesterol; and other antioxidants which have a enhance bone density. In addition, antioxidants act as mild anti-bacterial and anti-viral agents.

White tea, however, has the highest concentrations of the health factors found in all teas. There are two reasons for this: which leaves of the tea plant are used for white tea; and the way white tea is processed before being delivered to market.

White tea has traditionally come from the Fujian province of China. Only recently has this tea begun to be grown in Taiwan, Eastern Napal and Northern Thailand. In all cases, white tea is made from only a couple of the tender, new leaves and one bud at the top of the Camellia sinensis (tea) plant. The tea leaves are allowed to sit for a few hours, then withered on a rack indoors. They are then allowed to sit another few hours, and finally mechanically dried. And they are ready to go.

This minimal processing allows the white tea leaves to retain a much concentration of antioxidants than other varieties of tea.

 Caffeine

All teas from the Camellia sinensis plant contain caffeine. Caffeine is one way caffeine producing plants of all varieties protect themselves against insects; caffeine of one of natures natural insecticides.

Plants put their greatest energy investment in protecting their most vulnerable parts. The leaves that are most vulnerable on a tea plant are those new leaves and buds at the top of the plant. So the practice of choosing only one bud and the top two or three leaves for white tea produces a tea with the largest concentration of caffeine compared to other teas.

The concentration of caffeine in tea is much less that that present in coffee. However, if you are looking for a bit of a caffeine lift, tea can supply it for you.

 Teeth

It has long been known that fluoride has a beneficial effect on teeth, helping to strengthen enamel and prevent tooth decay. Our water supply and most toothpaste contain fluoride. White tea also has a bit of fluoride in it. So drinking a cuppa will contribute to the health of your teeth.

 Taste and Relaxation

White tea is a delicately flavored beverage. It is a smooth drink with a touch of natural sweetness. If you take the time to savor its flavor, taking several deep breaths as to sip, you will contribute to your own health in a very pleasant way.
